Over the years the competition has grown in popularity and stature, and the quality of the shooters had also improved exponentially. From its humble beginnings in 2019, the event has grown into one of the most popular in the Western Cape, attracting the top shooters. All of this notwithstanding its controversial compulsory silencer policy.
The .30 calibre cap, applied from inception, was originally to try and protect the smaller calibre shooters. At that stage, .30 was mostly limited to 300 WinMag and 300 WSM. However, it has since evolved to high velocity, high energy calibres like 300 PRC, 300 Norma and 300 Sherman, which are starting to dominate the competition.
