I started shooting air rifles in the early 2000s. As life progressed, I switched to centrefire rifles. Trying to shoot small groups at 100 m soon became a thing of the past as I was pushing the distance further and further each time. Opportunities were, however, few and far between. The only practical solution to shoot beyond 500 m was to join the F-class shooters at the Western Cape Shooting Union ranges at Atlantis. I tried this and learned a lot. However, shooting steel gongs was just something else.
I started reaching out to friends on farms and found a place where I could push the distance to just beyond 1 km. I managed to make some hits on steel and shared my excitement. I always had the question come up of when somebody could join me as they were also interested. Unfortunately, the property where I shot was limited and due to safety reasons I did not want to share this venue, so I started looking for another venue.
