RESTAURANT 1777 @THE OLD RECTORY
Plettenberg Bay
Housed in an immaculately-restored heritage building – in fact, the oldest surviving dwelling in Plettenberg Bay – Restaurant 1777 is a charming bistro-style eatery with a warm and welcoming atmosphere situated a few sandy steps from the beach. The seasonal menu celebrates the long history of The Old Rectory, which started life as an army barracks under the first Dutch settlers to the Cape, before being converted into a rectory for the local Anglican bishop and ultimately becoming the family-owned boutique hotel you see today. These European influences and a healthy dose of South African flair provide inspiration for a concise but creative list of dishes that draw on classic recipes which are transformed into something fresh and sophisticated. The summer menu includes a mouth-watering take on a Bunny Chow, perfectly pink lamb chops with garden vegetables and Amarula cheesecake; an indulgent baked confection served with a salted caramel topping, fresh berries and a tart raspberry and red wine sorbet.
