Peter Norman Townend 1925-2023

Former King’s Cross shedmaster Peter Townend has died at the age of 98. Born August 13 1925, Peter joined the LNER as a premium apprentice at Doncaster Works in 1941. His steam career culminated in the top job at Top Shed’ and he would be responsible for the widescale fitting of Kylchap blastpipes to ‘A4s’ and A3s’ (plus some ‘V2s’) as well as fitting the German-style smoke deflectors to the ‘ASK.
