Directions round Nottingham

Thank you for an excellent spread on railways in and around Nottingham, in , April,I enjoyed it very much. The caption on page 13 concerning No. 64125 rightly points out the round-thehouses nature of the journey to Basford North, which began by heading south from Victoria station. However, the route taken never involveda visit to Nottingham Midland or MR metals. The train would have taken the ex-GNR line via Nottingham London Road High Level before crossing the MR line to Lincoln. It would pass the former Racecourse station, then Netherfield and Colwick, before turning north towards Gedling. Then followed Mapperley Tunnel and Daybrook and finally crossing the GCR north of Nottingham as it approached Basford North. Nowadays the GNR line has largely been removed from Weekday Cross eastwards and trains from Nottingham Midland use the ex-MR route to travel east and then takea link built in the 1960s to gain access to the
