WHY STIR-UP SUNDAY?
Falling on the last Sunday before Advent (so the actual date changes every year), it gets its name from the Book of Common Prayer. The collect prayer for that Sunday’s church service begins: ‘Stir up, we beseech thee, oh Lord…’ and perhaps because of that it became the traditional day to make the Christmas pudding!
