Next month will mark two years since a Los Angeles County judge terminated the conservatorship that had governed Britney Spears’ life for nearly 14 years. And while much has been said about the star since – through documentaries and interviews with estranged family members and former friends – apart from dozens of rambling and often incoherent Instagram posts, Spears herself has yet to speak out. Until now.
“Over the past 15 years or even at the start of my career, I sat back while people spoke about me and told my story for me,” the 41-year-old recently told People magazine. “After getting out of my conservatorship, I was finally free to tell my story without consequences from the people in charge of my life.”
Although the singer admits “it took a long time and a lot of work” for her to feel ready to tellin which she delves deep into her past. “It is finally time for me to raise my voice and speak out, and my fans deserve to hear it directly from me,” she added to of the recently released tome. “No more conspiracy, no more lies – just me owning my past, present and future.”
