If I say the words ‘blue eyeshadow’, what springs to mind? For me (and probably, many of you), those two words are synonymous with memories of the early 00s. Inspired by Aaliyah’s music video, I’d crack open a frosty blue eyeshadow from Miss Sporty (swiped from my older sister’s dresser), somewhat aggressively dab a brush into the pan and sweep it over my eyelids. I can still remember its powdery and pizza. Then, I grew up. Thankfully, the pizza remained, but my relationship with make-up colours changed drastically. Bright, vibrant shades suddenly seemed like scary territory. Any time I bought an eyeshadow palette that featured a random blue, purple or green, the vibrant pan lay untouched while everything around it was used. My go-to products quickly became smokey brown eyeshadows, nude-toned lipsticks and blushers that gave a ‘barely-there’ flush.
