    Speaker McCarthy says House to start an impeachment inquiry into President Biden

    "I do not make this decision lightly," McCarthy told reporters Tuesday. It's unclear whether any formal impeachment resolution would have the votes in the House to pass.

    House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Tuesday the House would initiate an impeachment inquiry into President Biden amid threats to McCarthy's speakership from members of the right flank of his own party.

    "I am directing our House committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden," he said. "This logical next step will give our committees the full power to gather all the facts and answers" that the American people want.

    The move comes amid increasing pressure from a bloc of hard-line conservative Republicans. Members of the House Freedom Caucus have also demanded steep spending cuts that would
