The Gay Sense of Humour – “You can’t say that!”

I managed to get to my mid-teenage years before seeing a TV screen, so I was forced (if that was so difficult) to listen to the ‘wireless’ or, as it was often called, ‘steam radio’. One of the many shows I listened to was called Round the Horne, which featured Kenneth Williams as Sandy and Hugh Paddick as Julian, a gay couple (and, in real life, both actors were gay) who were always trying to interest Kenneth Horne, the star of the show, into some business scheme or service.
