Q I have an abdominal aneurysm. Why won’t they operate?

An abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a bulge in the aorta, the main blood vessel from the heart down to the abdomen. It can gradually enlarge, risking rupture and life-threatening bleeding. In England, ultrasound AAA screening is offered to men turning 65, but may be done earlier on anyone if indicated.
