FRONT AXLE STRIP DOWN

The whole front axle is supported by a bracket attached to the underside of the cylinder block.

The axle pivots on this through a pair of metalastic bushes, which helps alleviate some of the vibrations from the three-litre single-cylinder engine directly above it. The only other connection is the drag link from the steering box to undo. Straightforward once the mangled split pin is extracted.

I have gone against my usual advice to only jack up and axle stand on a hard surface. In this case, the ground is rockhard clay, and it is dry, so there is no chance of the axle stand tipping over. I removed the front wheels once
