On the initial test run of the TE-F20 with its rebuilt engine, I noticed a clunking coming from the wheels/back axle, but after tightening the wheel nuts it was still there. The owner explained that the college had “rebuilt” the backend before they went on to ruin the engine, so I was apprehensive of what I might find!

Lucky break

Having found oil dribbling down the brake backplates, I assumed the worst. The brakes would be contaminated with oil. On jacking the tractor up and sitting it on stands, I soon discovered that the oil was only on the outside of the brake backplate. Inside, the brakes were clean and free from oil, in fact, they had been relined.
