BLACK-EYED SUSAN VINE

As we get towards the end of this BOM series, I have had to find some more unusual flowers to fit in with the seasons and offer different shapes and colours to balance the quilt design. So this month’s Thunbergia, or black-eyed Susan vine, has been chosen for its interesting flowers and bright orange and yellow petals rather than because it's a favourite of mine. This is a completely different plant to the more well-known black-eyed Susan, which is actually a rudbeckia. Instead, this is a fast growing climber that produces an abundance of flowers and is perfect for pots and hanging baskets. Strictly speaking, it is a tender perennial, but you will need to bring it into your greenhouse to get it through the winter, and therefore most gardeners treat it as an annual.
