You will need
■ Print fabric – Twenty-one (21) fat eighths
■ Cream fabric (chick) – One (1) 6in square approx.
■ Red fabric – (coop flag) – One (1) 7in square approx.
■ Background fabric – 2½yds
■ Border fabric – ⅞yd
■ Backing fabric – 3¾yds
■ Batting – 66in x 78in
■ Binding fabric – ⅔yd
Finished size
■ Quilt: 58in x 70in
■ Hen Blocks: 10in square

Notes
■ Please read through the pattern before you begin. ■ Choose prints with plenty of contrast in both the colour and scale of the prints to add interest to your chicken blocks. And don’t forget a dash of yellow for their beaks! Nicola used the binding fabric for the hens’ beaks and the chick’s wing and beak (see step 9). ■ Assume a ¼in seam allowance. ■ WOF = width of fabric.
