Changes afoot

When the new season starts in Spain, a number of very familiar faces will be missing. Clasico legends Karim Benzema (Al Ittihad) and Sergio Busquets (Inter Miami) have left the continent; Real Betis legend Joaquin, the league’s joint all-time record appearance-maker – and record joke-maker – has retired, and even much-maligned referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz has packed it in after15 years and 288 matches. Spanish football won’t be the same without them but, such is the merry-go-round nature of the sport, there are already a number of new faces ready to take their places in the spotlight.
