IN America, August is National Peach Month. Whether you feel that peaches should be celebrated similarly here in the UK or not is a matter for you, but it is certainly difficult to imagine summer without this delicious juicy fruit. Peach season can begin in July, and lasts until September, but August is when they are at their peak. There are more than 700 varieties in the world today, including nectarines (which are a variant of peaches and not a cross between peaches and plums).
