NUTS at Christmas were always a ‘thing’ for my family when I was growing up. Some of my earliest Christmas memories are of having a bowl of hazelnuts on the dining-room table. And my first taste of salted peanuts was at Christmas, at the age of five or six. Unfortunately, my eldest daughter (now grown up and married) has a severe nut allergy, so for most of my adult life we have not routinely had them in the house.
