OPINION TWO BITS
In 1992, an American thriller film was released called Sneakers. It’s about hacking, espionage, and government agencies. The usual tropes in other words. In the movie, Ben Kingsley’s villainous character tells Robert Redford “It’s not about who’s got the most bullets. It’s about who controls the information: What we see and hear, how we work, what we think. It’s all about the information.”
That line is oddly prescient. Sneakers was made in the days before the internet, social media and mobile phones. And before the rise of China as a global superpower.
