TWO years after the July 2021 unrest, police have beefed up their numbers as well as their capacity to deal with public violence.

A month after the violence, President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed a panel of experts to investigate the riots.

They found that the police were overwhelmed and overstretched and, as a result, had not responded efficiently.
