1 St Nowhere Spa and Campsite

This popular fishing spot is 110 km north of Henties Bay. Camping from R525 p.n. for five people and R105 per extra person p.n. A stand close to the sea with a private bathroom from R600 for five people. Self-catering bungalow from R1 490 p.n. for up to four people; R248 per extra person – the units sleep 5 – 9 people. Groups of up to 13 people can book the big house – from R2 980 p.n. for eight people; R248 per extra person. Rates exclude 2% tourism levy and bedding (R40 p.p.). The kiosk sells basics and there’s a small restaurant open during the summer holidays.

2 Mile 108 Campsite (NWR)

About 90km north of Henties Bay. Campsite with a long drop and no electricity R150 p.p. (max eight people). You pay for water: R1,25 per litre of fresh water; R10 per shower. Self-contained campsite (own shower and toilet, no nearby braai): R250 p.p. (max eight people).

Campsite with private ablutions and a donkey boiler, braai, stoep with solar lights and basin: R600 p.n. (max four people). Basic fisherman’s cabin R400 p.n. (sleeps two). Open year-round; gets crowded in December and January. The kiosk sells ice, beer, bait and firewood.

3 Cape Cross Seal Reserve

About 1km north of the seal colony – there are five platforms with shelter against the wind. It’s very basic – bring your own drinking and washing water. No power. Camping R100 p.p. Entrance fee to reserve R100 p.p. (SADC rate), plus R50 per vehicle.

4 Cape Cross Lodge

This lodge is next to the Cape Cross Seal Reserve, about 60km north of Henties Bay. The campsite has 21 sheltered stands (R190 p.p.) with power points, a scullery and a braai. Maximum six people per stand. Whalers self-catering cottage (sleeps four) from R750 p.n. Double room from R1440 p.p. sharing, dinner and breakfast included. There’s also a restaurant, bar, gift shop and a small museum.

5 Mile 72 Campsite (NWR)

This campsite is 36 km north of Henties Bay. Camping R150 p.p. (max eight per stand). Campsite has a long drop, no electricity and you have to buy water: R1,25 per litre; R10 per shower. Basic fisherman chalet R400 p.n. (sleeps two). Only open in December and January.

6 De Duine Hotel

Next to the sea in Duine Street. Single room R458 p.n. Double room R610 p.n, plus R150 per child aged 6 – 12 on a mattress in their parents’room. They have braai and conference facilities, a restaurant and bar. There’s a swimming pool and a squash court.

7 Ietsiemeer Beach House

This luxury self-catering house has great sea views. There are 12 bedrooms and the house sleeps 24 people, so it’s ideal for bigger groups who want to stay together. Rent three of the en suite double rooms (six people in total) for R5 980 p.n. (additional rooms available from R1035 p.n.). If you’re only staying for one night, it costs 25% more. Enquire about the 10% SADC discount.

8 Buck’s Camping Lodge

In Henties, 10 minutes from the sea. The campsite has 45 stands and it’s a great place to pitch a tent. Each stand has electricity and a private bathroom. There’s a wall to protect you from the wind. Camping R350 p.n. (December/January R400) for up to four people, plus R50 per extra person (max six people per stand).

SPITZKOPPE

11 Spitzkoppe Rest Camp

The campsite has 31 stands among the boulders, set far apart from each other. Each stand has its own long drop toilet. There are communal showers with hot water and flush toilets at the reception office. There’s also a bar and a restaurant. Braai packs are available. Camping R210 p.p. Day visitors R120 p.p. A guided outing to rock art sites in Bushman’s Paradise is included in the price and takes about two hours.

12 Spitzkoppe Tented Camp

The camp is only a kilometre from Spitzkoppe. Six private campsites (R200 p.p.) each with a bathroom, a braai and power. There are also 19 en suite safari tents: R970 p.p. Ten luxury bush wagons have en suite bathrooms and solar power: R1560 p.p. Donkey boilers supply hot water from 6 am to 9 am, and from 7 pm to 9pm. Cool off in the swimming pool or sip a beer at the Bush Bar. The bar has Wi-Fi and you can order food.
