Trapped with an unkillable monster inside a First World War bunker, survival feels like a tough assignment, but still less so than the one Frictional Games has set itself here. An early loading screen message encourages us to experiment with its world, boldly concluding: “If you think something may be possible to do, it probably is”. That organic agency couples with a commitment to conjuring horror from a single enemy, following in the footsteps of Alien: Isolation. Yet by the time we find ourselves cowering under a table, praying the creature doesn’t return our gaze, The Bunker is clearly delivering on its promise.
