#1 FEARLESS IN FULL COLOUR
WHO Alma Kennedy
WHERE Johannesburg
It’s hard to believe that Alma Kennedy has always preferred neutral shades on the walls of her home. Although she loves bright colours, she usually limits them to her large collection of artworks and textiles. But it was time for a change, so she enlisted the help of friend and interior decorator Cillié van Rooyen of Kaboedel with one simple request: surprise me!
“I know Alma is fearless when it comes to colour and it’s not every day that you’re given free rein,” says Cillié. “But that comes with a huge responsibility as, ultimately, it’s still Alma’s home.” However, Cillié didn’t let that hold her back! The end result? Playful pink and cheerful teal walls – the perfect backdrop for Alma’s artworks.
"The colours are fun and interesting and work really well with my art," says Alma.
She finds it difficult to resist beautiful fabric, acquiring pieces wherever she goes - at markets and exhibitions, and on trips abroad. Textiles, art and bright colours are definitely a winning combination in Alma’s two guest bedrooms.
A TOUCH OF FRIDA
The inspiration for this bedroom was a Frida Kahlo print and a Mexican mirror. When Cillié also came across fabric with bold colours and Frida Kahlo images, this timeless theme was a given.
