’61 BEETLE ON AIR

Gino went to his first car show at the age of 12. Back then, he was more into Hot Wheels than the real things, and his hobby quickly stepped up a gear.

Six years later, aged 18, he began looking for his first real car to put his stamp on and ended up buying a Mk4 Golf, which he transformed into a show winner. Three further water-cooled VW builds later, he decided to cross the divide between the water and air-cooled VW scenes.

Let’s be clear here. When I say builds in relation to Gino’s previous cars, I mean full-on show cars. After the Mk4, he worked his way through a Mk3 Scirocco, Mk1 Golf and his current daily – a 447bhp Audi S3 – before finally deciding to scratch the air-cooled itch and buy the early Beetle he’d always promised himself.
