The Rampant Stoat returns

I was interested in the cover of the February 2023 edition of The Classic MotorCycle. I also have an Ajay that has been in the family for 50 years. I bought my AJS Model 20 ‘heavy tourer’ in 1972. This was my first ‘big bike’ after I passed my test.

I had previously had a lash-up Bantam/Honda 90 hybrid that my mate and I put together from scrounged bits and ran on the back lanes of Devon when we were 14. This was followed by an ancient 350cc Matchless, with plunger rear suspension, that was also ridden illegally, mostly round the fields and woods of friends’ farms. When I was 16, I got a Honda CD175, which was a great little bike.
