Time passes at a painfully slow pace in the world of my Honda CG125. You may recall the article in CMM in January 2022 when I detailed how Marcus at Rex’s Speed Shop had successfully uprated the electrical system by converting it from six volts to 12 volts.
This has been common practice on classic bikes of the 60s and 70s, both British and Japanese, and the improvement in the lighting system which raised my opinion of the CG’s potential also spurred me to get on with a fundamental restoration of the machine. This hadn’t been in the plan. When I saw it advertised several years ago, it had looked pretty tidy and the price was good for a 1980 model.
I wanted it because I had some philosophical notion that a rugged four-stroke single would be the ideal machine for facing Armageddon. When civilisation in the future had collapsed, survive abuse in the emerging south-east Asian markets when launched in 1976.
