HIP HEALTH TIPS

ip mobility or flexibility can affect people at any age and often decline because of a sedentary lifestyle. Why does this matter? “If you’re. When people sit too much, “hip flexors are going to become overly tight and our glutes are going to become overly weak, and that creates an imbalance, which then leads down a path of having poor posture,” notes Reed. That’s why difficulty getting out of the car, lower back pain, and even trouble swinging a golf club may actually stem from your hips—everything is connected. The way to improve hip mobility, she says, is by stretching your calves and hamstrings and increasing your glute strength. She recommends exercises like climbing stairs, doing squats, and walking sideways or backwards. (Tip: Start off in a pool if you have trouble balancing.) The important thing is not to neglect your hips. “I think people do a great job of working their quads in the front and their hamstrings in the back, but we forget that we have an outside and an inside to the hip as well,” Reed adds. “We have to work all of those muscles equally in order to continue to keep our hips functioning well.”
