Carpet too pricey? Go for an oversized cosy rug instead!

My story

A big part of the appeal of buying a new-build was that we wouldn't have to do too much work to it. This property was perfect as it was close to our jobs and the children's schools and, crucially, within our price range. It had been painted magnolia throughout, so it was also a blank canvas for us to work with and I was keen to turn it into a cosy space where we could enjoy our family life together.

I didn't have a clear vision straight away, and it's taken some time to create my own personal style. I like to get inspiration from Pinterest and Instagram, but I've learnt that following trends doesn't alwayswork as I go off them quickly – which was the case when I went through a stage of painting everything pink! Instead, I've stuck with a neutral palette throughout, adding bits of colour here and there. I find it helps to plan and make a moodboard to keep your style consistent in each room. I'm most drawn to monochrome and a boho, Scandi style, along with a few nods to industrial décor, and I'm pleased I've managed to make each room look interesting, despite them being neutral in colour.
