Five police officers in custody over killing
THE family of Tyre Nichols, the African American man who was recently beaten to death by five Memphis police officers, has called on the US Congress to pass police reform legislation.
Nichols (29) was pulled over by police on 7 January, allegedly for reckless driving.
Video footage of the incident taken by police body cameras shows the army of officers delivering blow after blow against him as he cries out for his mother. Nichols, who was punched, kicked, and repeatedly struck with a baton, died of his injuries in hospital three days later.
