EARLY mornings, long days and working in the elements can take their toll on grooms, so prioritising time to stay in good physical and mental shape is important. After all, you can't look after your charges to the best of your ability if you're running on empty.

Staying well fuelled will help immensely. Making time to eat a healthy diet isn’t easy, but cooking a healthy dinner at the end of the day, and grazing on nutritious snacks throughout the day are great places to start.
