JANUARY 2022

■ UNFORTUNATELY, we kicked off 2022 with the sad news that canary and native hardbill fancier Paul Meek had his birdroom and aviaries broken into twice in two days. Mr Meek had 81 birds stolen at a value of about £6,500. However, the fancy clubbed together and gave Mr Meek more than £1,400 to replace some of the stolen birds.

■ GERMAN fancier Reinhard Molkentin was awarded the prestigious Gould Award for 2021 by the World Budgerigar Organisation (WBO). “It is a fitting tribute to an amazing breeder, mentor and phenomenal exhibitor,” said Ghalib Al-Nasser, WBO secretary.

■ AND continuing with the theme of awards, our very own Cage & Aviary Birds contributor Dennis Webster was given the Zebra Finch Society's Allen Silver Award for the third time. Mr Webster received the award back in 1998 and 2004 and was rewarded once again in 2021 for his dedication and service to the Society.
