■ BIG news this month as we announced a new nationwide raffle that’s designed to raise vital funds for local clubs. The 2021 Cage & Aviary Birds Grand Christmas Raffle (drawn on December 12 2021), was based on the highly successful raffle staged in 2020 by Mid Essex BS. The 2021 raffle was open to clubs from all branches of birdkeeping.

■ IVERMECTIN, an antiparasitic drug commonly known to birdkeepers as a spot-on mite repellent, was trialled in the UK as a possible treatment for Covid-19. The drug was added to the PRINCIPLE trial, led by the University of Oxford and was tested on participants. In less than a month, the study recruited more than 5,000 volunteers from across the UK.

■ THE Parrot Society (PS) confirmed it WOULD go ahead with its plans to host a National Exhibition in October, so long as Stafford Borough Council approved a show licence. Speaking to at the time, PS secretary Les Rance said: “The PS feels that we now need
