There was a varied line-up among the dozen or so miniature engines that featured at the Kelsall Steam & Vintage Rally that took place in mid-June. To add a little bit of extra interest in the line-up, there were a number of engines that had been scratch-built, with some being constructed quite a while ago, writes David Reed.
The largest miniature on which had made the trip up from Swansea and was getting a lot of attention. “It was scratch-built in 2009,” John said, with a lot of work being done on it since then. “The engine has undergone its ten-year test,” John said, “With new tubes being fitted in the boiler.” The other Burrell in the line-up was a 4in agricultural engine that was built back in 1970. It was bought by Ray Collier of Nantwich in around 2019 from Preston Steam Services and is owned by his eight-year-old son Riley.
