Hawaii's Mauna Loa, the world's biggest active volcano, erupts after 38 years
The mountain, which is taller than Mount Everest measured from seafloor to summit, erupted Sunday. Its lava appears to be contained, but scientists say the volcano has a history of rapidly changing.

Smoke filled the Hawaiian night sky on Sunday, glowing a bright red — signaling the eruption of the world's largest active volcano.
Mauna Loa, which means "long mountain" in Hawaiian, at approximately 11:30 p.m. local time on Sunday. It had been showing signs of unrest since, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
