Fingering is a very individual matter, since no two hands are alike. There are some pianists who might practise two or more different fingerings for a given passage; the one that comes out in performance is not predetermined, but influenced by factors such as the particular piano they have to contend with that night, the acoustical properties of the hall, a different way with articulation, and so on. Other pianists are not so conscious of the fingering they are using and do not write it down; rather than focus on developing muscular memory, a lot of the practice is geared towards training the ear and the mind to guide the hands to the right notes.
