Q: When I cut my pre-mixed commercial clay there is a circular crack. WIll that damage my pots?

We all like to take the commercial pre-mixed clay out of the bag and start making pots immediately. However, there can be a hidden defect in the clay which might cause problems in the future. Commercial pre-mixed clays fault. In commercial operations the clay is first weighed, batched and then placed into a clay mixer with water added to form a plastic mass. It then goes on to the pug mill a machine composed of a hopper with rotating blades which push the clay into a tube. Inside the tube is a rotating bladed screw which moves the clay into the de airing chamber finally exiting through a round or square shaped die.
