THOUSANDS OF CAPE FUR SEALS WASH UP ON CAPE COAST
In adevelopment that has many people scratching their heads, thousands of Cape fur seals have recently washed up on the Cape West Coast. Most of the affected seals are emaciated and include subadults and even premature pups.
Autopsies on some of the dead seals have revealed that they were starving, with very low reserves of body fat. Scientists are baffled by the seal die-offs, and various NGOs and charities are scrambling to find enough food to keep rescued seals alive.
