125g (4½oz) softened butter 2 free-range eggs

80g (2¾oz) sugar 50g (1¾oz) soft dark brown sugar 60ml (2fl oz) semi-skimmed or whole milk

30ml (1fl oz) pure maple syrup (preferably amber syrup for its rich taste)

For the frosting

200g (7oz) cream cheese, softened

100g (3½ z) butter, softened ½ tsp pure vanilla extract
