The Cortina 1600E has remained a firm favourite for blue oval enthusiasts for as long as we can remember. It’s also become a popular base for a restoration project too. When John Davies rescued this late 1970 1600E back in 2014, he wasn’t aware of its unusual early history which included the installation of a 3-litre Essex V6 along with a plethora of rare dealer specified options. Now restored to its former glory, John has managed to retain those all-important mods from the early 1970s and he’s also added a few neat touches of his own, too.
Back in the day when this Mk2 was still in its youth, John was busy with his own Anglias and Mk1 Cortina GTs, “I moved on to Mk2 Cortinas during the 1980s, but when my son was old enough to drive, I turned my attention tohe remembers. “The Minis progressed on to MGBs and MGCs by the early 2000s, I’ve stuck with older cars throughout all my adult life.” Despite the lengthy period since John last had any association with a car bearing the blue oval badge, by 2014 he was beginning to get that itch to return to where it all began.
