The addition of a fire pit on Anne and her husband’s lha property has made sundowners after a dip in the pool or a braai with family and friends all the more enticing.

“It provides a wonderful extension to our covered stoep and now we can enjoy our outdoor entertainment spaces all year round,” says Anne, interior decorator at Simply Decor. She enlisted the help of her son David, an architecture student; their goal was to make the most of the view and create a cosy gathering spot in the garden, not too far from their farm-style home.

“We wanted this new space to ground our large property and enhance our existing entertainment area,” explains Anne. “The inspiration for the location of the fire pit was the magnificent coral tree next to our house. In winter, the almost bare branches allow the sun to shine through and warm you up around the fire pit. In summer, it provides shade.”

FIRE PIT A valuable addition to any property, a fire pit doubles up as a braai and a cosy fireplace with an inviting ambience in both summer and winter.

PIZZA OVEN Similarly, versatile pizza ovens are a huge bonus in an outdoor entertainment area. Think homemade pizzas, bread, potjies and any form of slow cooking at its best.
