As with most sushi restaurants in South Africa, Miyako is Chinese-owned and serves both Chinese and Japanese cuisine. However, Miyako is somewhat different from the run-of-the-mill sushi joint. Attention has been paid to décor, and the menu features several items not usually found at other similar eateries.
But it is undoubtedly their sushi that stands out. Their flamed sushi is the star of the menu, and even those who refuse to eat ‘raw fish’ will find these offerings quite addictive. This style of sushi is made in the traditional manner, then flamed with a torch to quickly cook and lightly char the delicate morsels. A dollop of the most delightful teriyaki sauce is spooned over, and the dish is presented in a fog of dry ice.
