    WHISKEY SMASH

    Makes 1 serving

    6 fresh mint leaves
    ¼ navel orange, halved
    2 tablespoons Simple Syrup (recipe follows)
    1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
    ¼ cup bourbon
    Club soda
    Garnish: fresh mint, orange wedge

    ONE Place mint, orange halves, Simple Syrup, and lemon juice in a pint glass. Using a wooden spoon, muddle for about 30 seconds. Add bourbon.

    TWO Fill a rocks glass with crushed iced. Strain bourbon mixture into glass, discarding solids. Top with a splash of club soda. Garnish with mint and an orange wedge, if desired.

    SIMPLE SYRUP

    Makes 1½ cups

    1 cup sugar
    1 cup water
