The state’s strategy is a prudent approach to managing a complex international waterway with multiple users and stakeholders.
The campaign by several conservation organizations or “one guard gate” on the Erie Canal sounds simple enough. But such a closure would have significant negative impacts while not fully remedying the aquatic invasives problem.
