Former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger’s statement, “it may be dangerous to be America’s enemy, but to be America’s friend is fatal,” is more apt than ever under the administration of Joe Biden. This is evident, for example, in the case of the war between Ukraine and Russia and the position that the friends of the United States have had to take, even going against their internal needs. It is also notable that Biden’s foreign policy seeks to rebuild a Cold War-like international system of alliances and enemies where “the enemies of my friends are my enemies.”
