Altered breathing techniques, or patterned breathing, has been taught in childbirth classes for many years. The current trend is now moving away from rigid breathing techniques to more relaxed, natural breathing, following the movements of the body and lungs, and encouraging more breathing awareness. Learning how your body breathes, and working with it during labour to relax you, will go a long way in helping you deal with the stress and discomfort that labour brings.
HOW DOES BREATHING HELP MY LABOUR?
The pain receptors in the uterus respond to two things. Stretching of
