Canaries Month by Month: APRIL

AS HAS been my custom over recent years, I have been led by the seasons and allowed my canaries to come into breeding condition naturally, without the use of artificial lighting, and only providing minimal heating.

I am sure the energy suppliers hate me for this, but my pockets thank me now that the price rises are kicking in. It’s perhaps a small point, but the costs of keeping birds will rise rapidly this year, as not only increased energy costs but increased feeding bills will also become painfully apparent as the calendar unfolds.

Will these changes manifest themselves in the numbers of birds we keep, or the prices our surplus stock change hands for, I wonder?
