Canaries Month by Month:

AT THE time of writing it is mid-May, and my first round is nearing completion. I have 50 or so young birds, nearly 40 of which are already closed-ringed, and there are plenty of eggs in the second-round nests yet to hatch. Speaking to a few friends, mixed seasons are being reported, which was also true of the article by David Allen in the May 19 issue, in which he tracked the progress of some Lizard canary fanciers. As far as my Yorkie friends are concerned, there does appear to be an air of optimism. I hope so, because if we are to have any domestic shows this year, we will need plenty of home-produced birds to grace the show benches.
