Why?

Record-breaking paddleboarding in the magnificent Scottish

There is something immensely alluring about the Scottish Highlands, especially for a stand up paddleboarding (SUP) adventurer. I can’t do justice to the peace and harmony you feel while out paddling on a loch, with the mountains rising high above. But it’s really no wonder that this part of Scotland teems with folklore and legend, because the further north you travel, the more mysterious the land becomes.

Back in June 2021, I had the privilege of visiting the Highlands to attempt my first-ever SUP world record, on Loch Awe. Now I was returning to Scotland to try for my seventh world record, this time on Loch Ness.

On my first trip, I used a VW Transporter as my support vehicle; but for this journey, I knew that I would need something larger, especially as my partner and I wanted to use this brief window of opportunity to explore the North Coast 500. It’s a place neither of us have ever visited
