THE MONGOL INVASION

◼ As one of the most fascinating time periods of global history, the invasion of the series ever since this expansion was released. Here the big addition was the Mongol Horde, a playable faction in a new campaign whose purpose was to sweep across the islands of Japan and conquer them. Elsewhere it brought new units, new buildings and upgrades, new multiplayer modes and maps and – like all PC games of the era – a map maker and campaign editor. It was a solid package that did bring something new to the base game.
