THE MONGOL INVASION

As one of the most fascinating time periods of global history, the invasion of the series ever since this expansion was released. Here the big addition was the Mongol Horde, a playable faction in a new campaign whose purpose was to sweep across the islands of Japan and conquer them. Elsewhere it brought new units, new buildings and upgrades, new multiplayer modes and maps and – like all PC games of the era – a map maker and campaign editor. It was a solid package that did bring something new to the base game.
