Sophie Coldwell deserves a medal, and if it doesn’t come in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham this summer, then it should be awarded for services to animal welfare. The Loughborough-based star might have been competing on the international stage in swim, bike and run for more than a decade, but outside of training, racing and plans for a marriage to ultra-running fiancé Tom Evans later this year, she’s also fostering dogs and rescuing chickens. As a reserve for Tokyo last summer, she also got her ‘nails’ if not her hands on Olympic gold, as 220 found out.
